The competition for the greatest Bank Holiday plans...

Bank holiday weekend is here!!!

Ok.  The obligatory excited start to my piece is there, and it has three exclamation marks so people will know I have given it the full “Woohoo!!” it deserves.

Right.  So… What does it all entail then?!

Full focus is now about what you are all up to.  Going to a music festival? Notting Hill Carnival? Planning a bbq and hoping the sun will come out after all? Perhaps you are planning to be super productive and have a big sort out before the kids go back to school, or using the extra day to catch up with friends and family?

No matter what you have chosen to do, there is one thing for sure about this 3-day weekend; we are likely to lose that extra day.

It may be through a hangover (or three hangovers for those heading to the festivals!), it may be through booking so many dates with people that we feel sleepier at the end of our weekend than we did at the end of the working week.  I’m sure some of us will start to have that clear out, only to realise in desperation that after 8 hours we have made more mess than we started with, and will need to tackle it all again the next day.

Getting the balance is always difficult, especially when it can seem that everyone else is doing something exciting.  It’s very similar to when I suffer from New Years Eve syndrome – it’s a public holiday, for the last week people have been asking “any plans for the bank holiday weekend?” so surely I should have something planned? That said, everywhere I go is likely to be rammed with others who felt under the same pressure, and are not be entirely sure why they are where they are.

I think I will throw caution to the wind this weekend and treat it as a regular weekend, only at a slower pace.  This takes the pressure off me, and I hope it takes the pressure off others – I am not someone that anyone will need to compete with in the “who had the most exciting Bank Holiday” contest.

So for the next three days you will find me alternating between:

- Catching up with my sky+ list (other similar TV recording device thingy’s are available!)
- Deep cleaning the kitchen
- Eating out with Mr. BuBakes, to avoid making mess in my super sparkly kitchen
- Visiting the Tiptree Jam shop to stock up on whatever catches my eye
- Going for a wander or two
- Baking, icing and pricing (of course!)

Nothing too exciting but all to be completed with a cup of tea close by, and more importantly, no deadlines.  That’s what I call making the most of the extra day.

So, whatever you are up to this weekend, I hope you have a wonderful time, and that you take some time for yourself.

Oh, and if you're still looking for something to do, you could always get ahead of the game for the next Bank Holiday.  After all, there are only 17 more Saturdays until Christmas…

Thanks Kathy, it was lovely and relaxed. I hope you had a lovely one too...

The main piece I was working on in on the new post. I was also designing a birthday cake for a young man who is rather fond of Lego. Watch this space!
